'Straight'en up or ship out.

I was just reading an article about how a homosexual was mistreated and subjected to extreme prejudice in one of the elite navy corps of the world. After reading the article and pondering on the said topic I have only one word of advice for the queer folk - "STRAIGHTen up or ship out".

The armed forces are not for the queer folk, when you are in the armed forces you want your fellow soldier to back you up and not paw your back. The armed forces are about morale and cohesiveness. How can it be one cohesive unit with a lack of trust in each other? The army is all about sharing your space, its about moving as one cohesive unit. Personnel have to share rooms and even shower openly in public places and having someone who is 'left handed' in the midst ruins that cohesiveness which is paramount to the military doctrine. The presence of a known homosexual within the unit could hamper the morale and camaraderie on account of ostracism and tensions thereof.

One could argue that then women too should not be a part of the armed forces. Well, I couldn't disagree more. Women are an integral part of the armed forces; moreover they don't share the same barracks as men. Now if the queer folk were to be segregated into different barracks the pro debaters would have an iota of more substance to their stance. On second thought it is not a feasible idea for the queer folk are known to sue at the drop of a hat for discrimination, so they might not be open to segregation... but then again why not eh?... a barrack full of queer folk, an open orgy!!!! ;-) come in come in; the military beckons.

  • truth be told I am not fond of these critters but even I would not go that far as to advocate violencde against someone solely on the basis of their preferences.

  • Hmm, I agree that the military should be desexualized. Your sexual preferences (or lack thereof), shouldn't even be the shadow of a question while you're in there. It's not a place for that type of stuff.

  • "Sexual-assault organizations across the country are shipping rape-evidence collection kits to each member of Congress in hopes that more of the investigative tools will end up in the war zone to help troops who are victimized.

That move is in response to growing concerns among victim-rights leaders and several lawmakers that not enough kits are available to help soldiers. Nearly 200 U.S. women soldiers have sought assistance from civilian rape-crisis agencies since the war started, saying they were assaulted by fellow troops. Many have reported their cases were mishandled, in part because of inadequate forensic and medical treatment."

  • ouch Dav, I didn't know that it was the rampant in the armed forces... now think about the extra angle that these queer sobs would bring... it would just complicate things further... kick em all out of the army.

  • Barking Yak, it's clear that you disagree with the point made in the post, and that's your right. However, you're not going to prove anything by making ad hominem attacks unbacked by any clear evidence to support your argument.

  • It's hard to say whom this post insults more, gays, women, or hetro's.
That said, I must grudgingly admit you may well be right about the presence of homosexuals undermining the cohesiveness of the military unit. Not because they [ho-MO-sexUals] are a threat to other troops, but because the troops themselves would make much ado about nothing.
Do you find it interesting that few ever mention the idea of lesbians in the military might inhibit a unit's ability to perform as a group? It appears it is primarily the male of the species who feels threatened by the presence of those who prefer their sex with their own gender. Wonder why that is? Could it be women are simply more comfortable and confident with their sexual identity? Do men harbor some deep rooted fear that if tempted they may not be strong enough to resist? I suspect it's a great deal of both.

  • well wanda, I am an equal opportunity offender... I insult all be it man, woman, gay and what not...

I have made a disclaimer to the same effect on my new blog in progress.
