As per a recent royal decree..more than one million expatriates who have been living in the Kingdom for over 10 years, are entitled to apply for Saudi citizenship and their travels abroad with re-entry visas will not disqualify them. Just one question - WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD WANT A SAUDI CITIZENSHIP????? Most of my muslim friends say that if it werent for Mecca then they would never set foot on that soil. If Bahrain and Qatar were to offer citizenship then expats would jump at it. Bahraini's and Qatari's are some of the nicest people around and when you become a citizen of a country; you are interested in the local atmosphere; which I find wanting in Saudi and thus the principal reason for a lacklustre interest in Saudi Citizenship.
My bone of contention with the Saudi's is their lack of empathy, there is nothing wrong in giving what people want, you don't have to decide for them... let me explain what I mean w.r.t the above situation itself. Palestinians living in Saudi Arabia will not be given citizenship "to avoid dissolution of their identity and protect their right to return to their homeland". If a Palestinian wants to live peacefully then so be it, getting them murdered at the hands of the Israelis and Vice-versa is the greatest sin of the Saudi's.
